Global Ministries' previous relationship in Togo was with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. When that relationship became dormant in 2005, there was an opportunity to work with the Togo Council of Churches that represents many Protestant churches in this small West African nation. The Council is engaged in many projects among its member churches and organizations. Because of civil unrest in some neighboring countries, the Council has given much attention to displaced persons making Togo a country that welcomes and that attempts to integrate others into the Togolese society.
HIV/AIDS is another cause for anxiety and the Council seeks to address this through its many programs that reach out to communities around the country.
Some of the Council's core values are:
- to empower those who are poor, disadvantaged and oppressed for the betterment of their own lives;
- to enable people to take part in decision-making processes;
- to strive for the protection of civil and social human rights;
- to create equal opportunities for women and men;
- to promote peace and overcome violence;
- to further the protection and nurturing of the natural environment
