Lesotho Evangelical Church and the Christian Council of Lesotho
Country: Kingdom of Lesotho
Area of Need: Evangelization
Gift Range: $250-750
In the Kingdom of Lesotho, pastors of the Lesotho Evangelical Church use ponies and saddles to travel between very rural villages where they preach in the small churches in those villages. The ponies are the most practical transportation in the very mountainous and rough terrain. There is a waiting list of pastors needing ponies to carry out their ministries in the villages. The ponies cost $500 and the saddles $250 each. Your gift of $750 will outfit one rural pastor with a pony and saddle.

Area of Need: Scholarships for Children
Gift Range: $25-$300
The Christian Council of Lesotho provides full educational scholarships to children who are certified by social workers as coming from destitute families. In most schools $300 will provide an entire year's scholarship as well as books, supplies, uniforms and transportation fees. Any gift of any amount will help needy students in Lesotho realize their dreams of an education.
Country: Kingdom of Lesotho
Area of Need: Destitute Children
Gift Range: $50-$500
The Lesotho Destitute Children's Fund provides funds for food and medicine to the poorest of the poor children in Lesotho. As an example, a teenager, Tseliso Moshabesha, was able to have the ear surgery he needed to heal an ear damaged by a beating, and was able to return to high school and go on to college, thanks to the Lesotho Destitute Children's Fund. Your gift will help a poor child in great need be able to live out his or her full potential with health and dignity.

Area of Need: Education for Blind Students
Gift Range: $500-$2,500
St. Catherine's School in Maseru has a special program of education and training for blind students. The "Global Ministries House" for the visually impaired was completed in late 1999, with Disciples-UCC funds and is a great addition to the campus buildings. The blind children have already moved into the rooms and are very happily settled there. Global Ministries missionary Sheela Kuruvilla, who teaches science at St. Catherine's, has been vital in the progress in this unusual and badly-needed service.
Now the school needs several computers for the blind to advance in its program. St. Catherine's also would like to offer scholarships to graduates from this program at St. Catherine's, so they can go on to study at universities that are sensitive to the visually impaired.
Country: Kingdom of Lesotho
Area of Need: Professional Journals for Teaching Students

Gifts will provide material for the College library in areas of education or other needs.

Area of Need: New Church Buildings
Gift Range: $500-$40,000
The Lesotho Evangelical Church is a growing church, with new congregations in process of being established. There is a need for new church buildings for some congregations, and for additions on existing church buildings in order to accommodate more members. A complete new church building costs $40,000; however gifts in lesser amounts are welcome to contribute toward the purchase of building materials.

Area of Need: Abandoned and Orphaned Children
Gift Range: $50-$500
SOS Children's Village is a center for abandoned, orphaned, and neglected children. Global Ministries missionary Jayanthi Wilson serves as librarian, tutor and teacher giving love and attention to children whose lives are filled with pain and suffering. As an example, a teenager, Rethabile, came to SOS Children's Village five grades behind in school. She was a victim of physical and mental abuse, lethargic and withdrawn. With care and individual attention she found self confidence and success at school. Gifts will supply books, school supplies, and other items and services children need for a healthy, safe, encouraging living and learning home.
