Church of Christ of the Congo - Democratic Republic of Congo
The Church of Christ of Congo was formed several decades ago by 53 member communions in what today is the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire). The Church of Christ of Congo functions similar to a national council of churches. One of the church members of the Church of Christ of Congo is the Community of the Disciples of Christ of the Congo (CDCC), which has been related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1899 and today is a partner church of Global Ministries.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has recently emerged from a war situation, and the entire country is impoverished. The subsistence level of much of the church membership means that the Church of Christ of Congo suffers from funding shortages. Currently, the public relations agent of the Church of Christ has a very limited knowledge of the English language. In these global times, it is necessary for a public relations agent to be able to perform many functions, including initiating and maintaining contact with persons of many different cultures who speak a variety of languages. English is a common instrument of communication throughout the world, and the Church of Christ's progression into the age of globalization requires that the public relations agent speak the language. To remedy this situation, the Church of Christ of Congo requests support to enable the public relations director to improve his English. He will take a course in English over ten weeks, and will be comprised of six different levels of the language, which the director will need to complete before passing the course. The Church of Church of Christ of Congo expects to see great improvement in its relation to a more diverse public once this project has been completed.
