A project of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana is an established partner of Global Ministries, having been founded in the 1840’s by German missionaries. The denomination is one of Africa’s oldest self-governing churches and has strong roots in the Evangelical and Reformed tradition. The EP Church, Ghana includes approximately 600,000 members and 512 congregations. The EP Church, Ghana is very committed to its spirituality and social action ministries. Global Ministries supports the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana in programs of church expansion, education, and service.

The many travelers on the road to and from Accra, Kpong, Kpando, Hohoe, Aflao, and Wli Water Falls are in need of rest stops. As a benefit to the nation and as a way to generate income on other vital programs of the church, the EP Church will provide clean and safe rest stops. Each rest stop can expect over 500 travelers each month to stop in to use the restroom facilities, take refreshments to go, or stay for a meal.

Five locations for the rest stops have been identified and each rest stop will be built and fully furnished at a cost of $6,500. Rest stops will include four restrooms, a restaurant with a kitchen, a mini-mart with vending machines, three summer huts for sitting/resting/picnicking, and a sizable parking lot. The average monthly income from the sale of snacks, meals and refreshments at each rest stop is estimated at over $600. The income will go towards expenses, including salary, and the remaining profit will be utilized for projects of the EP Church.

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana sees the establishment of rest stops as a way of dignifying the travel that many Ghanaian and people from other countries carry out on this traveled road. They will bring up the level of comfort and respect for the beautiful surroundings for their own citizens as well as those visiting their country as guests.
