spacer Share about your Service as a Ministries and Mission Interpreter (MMI)!

What you do as a Ministries and Mission Interpreter is important to share with other MMIs!

This space is for MMIs to share what you are doing to tell the story of God's mission and the work of Global Ministries in your local congregations, Disciples Regions and UCC Conferences. Post a paragraph or two about something you did in carrying out your action plan. Share what worked and what didn't work and invite other MMIs to respond. Ask a question and see how other MMIs have implemented action ideas in their context.

Let's "stimulate one another to love and good deeds" as we seek to be faithful to our calling as MMIs!

I am happy to report that Claremont United Church of Christ in Southern California has approved becoming a Global Misssion Church. As the only MMI in the congregation (at the moment, I worked with our sub-committee on Missionary Relations to work through the 5 step process. Our rewarding work took about ten months as we evaluated where we are and envisioned where we would like to be. Our action plan offers a healthy challenge to our church in meeting our global responsibilities more effectively. As well, we were able to invite Rev. Buddy Martinez, a GM partner from Thailand, to celebrate World Communion Sunday with us. His visit offered a deeply enriching and 'global' experience for our congregation. Paz.

What an inspiring testimony to what can happen in mission-minded congregatons! This is a model for us to share with others as a wonderful example. Thanks for all you are doing to bring the face of mission "home" to so many.

Dear Jan, I look forward to seeing you at MissionWorks in October. Like the last one I attended, I am bringing at least two members with me, one who has been trained as a Mission INterpreter, and one who will be staying for the Mission INterpreter training. At the end of this Missionworks, we will then have three trained Mission Interpreters in our congregation. It is making a steady, yet dynamic influence on our congregation. OGHS giving is up over 300% in the past 5 years. We are now a Fair Trade only church and provide opportunities for Fair Trade sales at all church events. We now participate in the Child Sponsorship Program, and this fall will be setting forth the goal of a Heifer Project Ark (or two, or three). We are an 8% OCWM church and hope to move this to 9% for 2011 and 10% in 2012, and have been 5 for 5 long before that designation even existed. The Ecuador Partnership of the Illinois South Conference is a regular part of our mission education and participation. We are excited about participating in this October's Missionworks and hope that through it, the Holy Spirit might provide new opportunities for us to share in new ministries (like a mission partner staying with us in our parish, that we might learn ministry from them). See you in October. Bob Goddard

I have used "Connecting Threads" in both a small setting with members of my church and at a Conference event. I like that it is divided into self-sustaining units, so I don't have to play the whole thing. I do wish there was a segment on how to be a mission volunteer thru the UCC.
