spacer Unconventional and Innovative Giving

While they cannot replace the generous gifts received from individuals, congregations, Regions and Conferences, less traditional sources of income are being used to raise funds for the work of Global Ministries. Did you know you can raise funds for Global Ministries by searching the internet and shopping online? Recycling? Did you know you can pledge a portion of Ebay sales to Global Ministries? The proceeds from each of these opportunities will be split between the two fiscal entities of Global Ministries (Wider Church Ministries of the UCC and Division of Overseas Ministries of the Disciples) and will be used as undesignated funds.

GoodSearch and GoodShop

You can support Global Ministries while searching the internet. You can raise funds just by switching your current search engine to GoodSearch (www.GoodSearch.com). It can be added to your internet browser toolbar and set as your default search engine. Be sure to select "Global Ministries – Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ" as your cause. You can do this automatically by going to:  http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=847213. You can now sign in on GoodSearch and track how much money you are raising for Global Ministries.

If you shop on the internet, go to www.GoodShop.com  first and also select "Global Ministries – Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ" as your cause. Global Ministries will receive a small percentage of the total you spend.  There are no fees attached to this endeavor for you or for Global Ministries.

To make it even easier to use GoodSearch and Goodshop, you can download the Global Ministries GoodSearch toolbar by going to: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/global-ministries-disciples-of-christ-and-united-church-of-christ . The toolbar gives you an easy link to Global Ministries, to search, and automatically alerts you to coupons to use while shopping online.

Restaurant Fundraisers

Did you know that some restaurants will help you host fundraiser nights? Several national chains sponsor programs like this and local restaurants may be willing as well. They typically have an application you can fill out and they will help select a night or two that you promote for everyone you know to go eat out at their restaurant. Everyone that dines that evening with a voucher for your fundraiser helps raise funds. Restaurants typically give between 10% and 20% of the proceeds of people who present the vouchers. It's a great project for a church to take on and even promote to other groups that use your church building. It can be like a church dinner without any risk of getting stuck washing dishes! Contact Sarah Riester in Resource Development (sriester@dom.disciples.org or 317-713-2564) for suggestions or for information needed for application forms.

Facebook Gifts

The Causes application on Facebook provides a tool for making Birthday Wishes, Holiday Wishes, and lots more that will support the work of Global Ministries. Several Global Ministries supporters have made Birthday Wishes that have been granted by their Facebook Friends!

Vehicle Donation to Benefit Global Ministries

Donate your Car, Boat, RV, Truck, Airplane, Motorcycle, or just about any other type of vehicle and turn it into your Critical Presence through Global Ministries around the world! It is quick and easy, and in addition to supporting the work of Global Ministries it is tax-deductible. Global Ministries is working in conjunction with CARS (Charitable Auto ResourceS, Inc.), an organization that provides this service for hundreds of non-profits, including church organizations. Global Ministries will receive 70% of the proceeds but is not responsible for any of the costs. You will receive a tax receipt for the sale price for your charitable contribution. Of the funds received, 50% will go to Wider Church Ministries of the UCC and 50% will go to Division of Overseas Ministries of the Disciples with 100% being used for the work of the common Global Ministries.

Call 877-537-5277 for more details or fill out the form here: http://www.donatingiseasy.org/donate-car-global-ministries-christian-church.htm. Be sure to identify "Global Ministries" as the charity you are donating to. After you have called or filled out the form, a Vehicle Donation Representative will schedule a pickup that convenient for you, as well as provide you with confirmation of your donation. The average pickup time is usually 24-48 hours from the time you contact them.  Even if your car hasn’t run in years, don’t worry... they are equipped for towing too.

Trash to Treasure on Terracycle

This option is perfect for Global Ministries supporters who like the idea of reusing and repurposing. Terracycle (www.terracycle.net) pays non-profits for collecting items which would otherwise be trash and sending them in to be upcycled into new products. Terracycle pays for the shipping of items such as drink pouches, chip wrappers, and empty toothpaste tubes. Sign up, opt for "New Charity" then select "Help me find a charity" and then search for and select "Division of Overseas Ministries" as your charity.

MissionFish on Ebay

Global Ministries is listed as a charity on MissionFish, the fundraising arm of eBay. If you sell items on eBay, you can choose to have a percentage of your commission go to Global Ministries. If you purchase items on eBay, you can look to see what's available that benefits Global Ministries.
