David A. and Aida M. Vargas Global Ministries Fund
In celebration of 28 years of ministry of David A. Vargas with the Division of Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries, the current and former Chairs of the Division of Overseas Ministries Board of Directors, at the time of his retirement, established the David A. and Aida M. Vargas Global Ministries Fund, an endowment fund of the Division of Overseas Ministries, that will provide resources for the ministries of DOM/Global Ministries into perpetuity. Reverend Donald K. Gillett, Current Chair and former Chairs Mr. Chad Cline, Reverend Eugene W. James, Reverend Linda McCrae and Ms. Maria C. Perez, extended the invitation to give a gift for the David A. and Aida M. Vargas Global Ministries Fund in 2011.
David served first with DOM/Global Ministries as Executive for Latin America and the Caribbean and, in 2003 became the President of the Division of Overseas Ministries and Co-Executive of Global Ministries. As President/Co-Executive, David counts among his greatest satisfactions having helped define Critical Presence as the priority in mission of Global Ministries, and launching a series of program initiatives that led toward the 2009 General Assembly Resolution “Be A Global Mission Church.” As he approached retirement on August 1, 2011, David stated, I certainly thank God…for my 28 years with DOM/Global Ministries, especially for the blessing of being part of the sacred project of meeting God’s people and creation at the point of deepest need. Being part of this project continues to be the greatest joy of my life and one from which I will never resign as long as I live.
The David A. and Aida M. Vargas Global Ministries Fund is invested, along with the other Division of Overseas Ministries permanent funds, with the Christian Church Foundation, and is governed by the endowment practices and policies of the Division of Overseas Ministries Board of Directors. Distributions from the David A. and Aida M. Vargas Global Ministries Fund provide resources for the ongoing work of DOM/Global Ministries.
