San Salvador, El Salvador

The vision of Emanuel Baptist Church, located in El Salvador's capital city of San Salvador, is to be a Christian, Evangelical, Baptist, and Ecumenical church committed to the cause of peace and justice in El Salvador. The church's mission is to promote personal and community transformation through evangelism, education, and training of pastors and deacons to contribute to the construction of a more just and humane society in El Salvador.

One way this mission is achieved is through training farmers in crop diversification, working toward food security, implementation of new farming techniques that reduce the use of agricultural chemicals, ongoing training of community health workers, and working with children toward a culture of peace. The church works in four geographical areas of the country: Usulután, Cuscatlán, Sonsonate, and San Salvador.

Usulután

In Usulután, Emanuel Baptist Church concentrates its work in the rural communities of Mercedes Umaña and Berlín. Currently, the church supports networks of farmers, youth, and community leaders; the management committee for the San Simón River Basin; and a local association that manages and distributes water. In addition, the church continues its evangelism and pastoral training programs in the communities of Río Los Bueyes and Los Talpetates.

Future plans for the church's work in Usulután include:
Strengthen the municipal councils through specialized training for the leaders that promotes democratic government in each of the municipalities and guarantees that local development benefits all people.
Continue development of community leaders and networks.
Strengthen self-management of each of the community networks.
Improve the management of the local water committees in terms of self-management and sustainability.
Begin evangelism and pastoral training in the urban area of the Mercedes Umaña municipality.

Cuscatlán

In Cuscatlán, the church has developed projects in seven communities, initially in the areas of pastoral training, farming, and evangelism. Currently, the work is carried out through the following networks: farmers, youth, community leaders, and water committees. Also, the church works with women, evangelizes and ministers to the communities.

Future plans for the church's work in Cuscatlán include:
Strengthen relations with the municipality and expand the missionary work and training in the municipalities of Perulapán and Perulapía.
Continue to strengthen the Suchitoto Water Network and promote and support initiatives to form local water committees.
Strengthen ties with organizations currently working with women in the area with the goal of collaborating for training women and build upon the work that has been started with young women in the communities.

Sonsonate

The efforts in Sonsonate are the most recent projects taken on by Emanuel Baptist Church. The church has worked with the leaders of the Sihuanango community since 1999. Currently, the work involves training community leaders, maintaining relations with the organizational structures of the community, developing a ministry of evangelism and pastoral training, assisting a small network of farmers, and helping a women's group to organize.

Future plans for the church's work in Sonsonate include:
Expand relations with the neighboring communities of Las Tablas and La Pradera.
Improve and expand relations with the municipality of Sonsonate.
Strengthen self-management of the women's groups in the community of Sihuanango.
Expand the local farmers network to other communities.
Strengthen the missionary work and promote the inclusion of churches that have a presence within the community while developing initiatives in coordination with other churches.

San Salvador

The Central Emmanuel Baptist Church runs an intense program of evangelism and pastoral training in several communities. Currently, the church has 200 members and is developing ministries for the following special populations: children, teenagers, women, prisoners, and married couples.

Future plans for the church's work in San Salvador include:
Strengthen the evangelism and pastoral training efforts in all of the communities where the church currently has a presence.
Develop collaborative projects with other churches and agencies to deal with the problem of violence, with a special emphasis on youth.
Strengthen the programs that work with women, youth, and children as well as the ministry of the word.
Work on initiatives that promote a culture of peace
