The Ecumenical Forum for Peace and Reconciliation (FEPAZ) is a place for Christian encounter, reflection, and action for those committed to working for peace, reconciliation, and ecumenism in Guatemala. It takes on the challenge of maintaining the kairos of the Peace Agreements, maintaining a prophetic voice of denunciation and declaration of facts and situations of injustice, and other realities that hinder the fulfillment of the Reign of God on earth.
FEPAZ seeks Christian unity, or ecumenism, as a way to develop a democracy that promotes tolerance, respect, ethnic and religious pluralism, and peaceful living together. It seeks to be an ecumenical instrument of reflection, action, and projection where the mainline churches of Guatemala learn to become advocates of their national life through the perspectives of Christian values, the search for a common good, the construction of peace and reconciliation, and promotion of better living conditions for the Guatemalan population in the current context of globalization.
FEPAZ has the following goals:
-
Become a social and moral institutional force that will strengthen and expand the network of ecumenical organizations through technological inter-communication.
-
Monitor and objectively research national themes that are fundamental to the Guatemala Peace Agreements, themes that are necessary for the population as seen from a pastoral view and an advocacy perspective of FEPAZ.
-
Implement a policy and social communication instrument for the promotion of new values among the majorities of Guatemala.
-
Establish permanent channels of communication among the different governmental agencies, media, businesses, political parties, and social movements so they may support public policies that seek the common good.
-
Develop a program in political theology and advocacy with the purpose of preparing human resources in the country with profiles of high levels of education and influence.
-
Develop a sustainable and holistic campaign for the promotion of HIV-AIDS prevention and of humane and pastoral accompaniment of persons who are already infected from a Christian perspective, in an effort to reduce the spread of the pandemic and erase the stigmas that are related to this disease.
-
Provide orientation and guidance to established gangs in an effort to redirect their actions to a positive purpose and reduce the numbers of youth joining these groups, in addition to working toward the prevention of the establishment of further gang groups.
FEPAZ currently has a five year working plan and is seeking economic support from local and national government resources. If you would like to support the work of FEPAZ, you may make a donation to "FEPAZ – GUATEMALA." Listed below are special ways in which your gifts can help the project:
- A gift of $50 would support FEPAZ efforts to intervene with gangs for the purpose of redirecting gang members and potential members toward constructive activities.
- A gift of $150.00 would help enable the development of resources to support FEPAZ holistic campaign to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
- A gift of $500.00 would support FEPAZ' efforts to cultívate networks of the ecumenical community in Guatemala for the purposes of cultivating the capacity to collaborate on common concerns.
