United Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands

The United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands was formed following an historic ceremony held on the grounds of Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica on 13th December 1992. This ceremony marked the union of the Disciples of Christ in Jamaica and the United Church of Jamaica and Grand Cayman. The journey began as far back as the 1880s when efforts were made to bring about union between the then United Presbyterian and Congregational Churches operating in Jamaica. The first complete step was made on 1st December 1965 when the Presbyterian Church in Jamaica and the Congregational Union of Jamaica became one Church, the United Church of Jamaica and Grand Cayman.

Jamaica, is an island nation in the West Indies and lies about 480 miles (772 kilometers) south of Florida. It is the third largest island in the Caribbean Sea. Only Cuba and Hispaniola are larger. Arawak Indians, who were the first people to live in Jamaica, named the island Xaymaca, which means land of wood and water. Kingston is the capital, largest city, and chief port.

Pringle Home for Children is one of the Child Sponsorship sites of Global Ministries and has been caring for boys and girls for over 70 years. It is located in Carron Hall, St. Mary. Children come to Pringle Home from situations of neglect and abuse, most having no family reference. Pringle Home provides assistance for these abandoned, orphaned, and street children and is administered by the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
