John Thomas Shares Reflections on Jerusalem and the West bank
Recalling his recent trip to Jerusalem and the West Bank, UCC General Minister and President, the Rev. John H. Thomas, has penned reflection challenging the church to greater engagement in the issues surrounding Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Thomas was accompanied by the Rev. Lydia Veliko, the UCC's Ecumenical Officer, and Peter Makari, Executive for the Middle East and Europe of Global Ministries, as they visited UCC partners and church leaders in the Middle East and Europe. GM Child Sponsorship and Middle East Office Organize People to People Pilgrimage
Global Ministries' sponsors and others are invited to participate in a Child Sponsorship and Middle East Mission Trip ~ Come to the Garden of Flowers… visit Rawdat el Zuhur and Jerusalem, Israel and Palestine, from August 29 thru September 10, 2009. The trip will allow Disciples and UCC members a first hand opportunity to witness and be involved with the children at Rawdat el Zuhur, a school where children are encouraged to reach their highest potential in an atmosphere of care, trust, and respect; while outside the Separation Wall stands high and unpleasant. The trip will include visits to some of Global Ministries' Middle East missionaries, partners and programs around the area, an opportunity to understand their context of ministry and witness, and to learn first-hand about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Through encounters with Christians, Jews, and Muslims, Palestinians and Israelis, you'll gain new perspectives and insight. Of course, there will be visits to the important Biblical sites, as well. Experience your faith on an inspiring life-changing trip. If you have questions or are interested in participating in this trip, please contact us via email at

- engage in an ecumenical model of partnership between the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ through Global Ministries
- Serve as a link between the Common Global Ministries Board and participating seminaries
- Learn about and advocate for global social justice concerns
- Network with other ministerial students and MMIs (Ministries and Mission Interpreters) and learn how to engage in mission interpretation on issues that impact the global church
- Engage in praxis-oriented education
