Disciples and UCC lay and clergypersons meet to celebrate God's mission, equip themselves for more effective ministry, and connect with one another through the gifts of global music, story telling and sharing. The 2008 plenary speakers include: Missionaries from Hong Kong, the Middle East, Co-executives of Global Ministries, Cally Rogers-Witte and David Vargas, UCC general Minister and president John Thomas, pastor and missioner, Jim Moos, some special guests and former world area executives. Worship, music and celebration are a large part of our festival as well as workshops and discussion groups. GM Partner, Sabeel, Announces 7th Annual Conference on November 12-19, 2008
Beyond Remembrance: Facing the Challenges of the Future Sixty Years After the Nakba is this year's theme. Mark your calendars, and spread the word! The conference will focus on the commemoration of 60 years since the Nakba, and the complex issues of memory, narrative, and identity raised by the events of 1948. The conference will include: 4 nights in Nazareth, with trips to villages that were destroyed in 1948 and visits with the local Christian community; 4 nights in Jerusalem, with trips to Jaffa, Ramle, and Lidda; Lectures, workshops, discussions, and cultural events focusing on the last 60 years and the future for Christians living in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. GM Missionary, Linda Hanson, Shares some Reflections on Immigration during US Itineration
"We are currently on home assignment, living in Iowa, and visiting churches in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois after completing our first term as missionaries in Honduras… On May 12 the largest immigration raid in US history took place at Agriprocessor, Inc. in the community of Postville, Iowa. Almost 400 people were detained and charged with both criminal and civil crimes. As a missionary I have seen the poverty that drives people in Latin America to seek to work in the United States, and I know that legal options for entry into the United States are not available for these individuals. As a person of faith, I am called to speak out in concern for the people affected by this raid…" To read Linda's reflections, click here:

Disciples Presentation at the Stone-Campbell Dialogue is Available On-line
Representatives from the "three streams" of the Stone-Campbell Movement met in St. Louis, MO, June 8-10, 2008 to have dialogue on global mission. Robert Welsh, the president of the Council on Christian Unity, led the Disciples delegation and David Vargas, Co-Executive of Global Ministries, shared a paper on the topic from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) perspective.
