Swine Flu Update from GM Missionary to Mexico
"I'm in Mexico, and thank God I'm well.  Although I was on some ranches visiting churches over the weekend, I have already returned to Guadalajara where the virus still has not taken much effect.  The government has given good, informative and educational coverage, and as a preventative measure has given instructions to suspend all activity in which there will be large gatherings of people; this includes educational centers, churches, weddings, conventions, birthdays, baptisms, sporting events, etc., especially on the weekend of May 1-6, due to the Labor Day festivities (May 1) and the celebration of the Battle of Puebla (May 5)…" To read the rest of Justino Perez-Ojeda's report, click here: http://globalministries.org/news/lac/swine-flu-report-from-global.html

GM Co-Executives Return from a Critical Presence Solidarity Visit to Southern Africa
Cally Rogers-Witte and David Vargas traveled to Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa to visit International Partners serving in critical situations with Sandra Gourdet, GM Africa Area Executive. Sandra reports on one stop in their visit to Zimbabwe: "I have just returned this week-end from a visit to Zimbabwe and Mt Selinda Hospital… Given the political and economic situation in Zimbabwe over the past two years, we were pleasantly pleased to see the hospital functioning.  It is not up to its potential and there is only one doctor serving, but it continues to make a difference in the community.  The overall situation in the country is improving, although it will take time for everything to get back to normal.  There is a sense of hopefulness and expectation among the people.  Life continues to be very difficult for everyone.  The government is trying to curb the extreme inflation rate by allowing merchants to sell in foreign currency - the US dollar and the South African rand.  Prices are now stable, however, the greatest handicap for the people is obtaining the currency…" Look for a more updates on this visit at the GM website in days to come…

GM Child Sponsorship and Middle East Office Organize Trip to Israel and PalestineGlobal Ministries' sponsors and others are invited to participate in a Child Sponsorship and Middle East Mission Trip ~ Come to the Garden of Flowers… visit Rawdat el Zuhur and Jerusalem, Israel and Palestine, from August 30 thru September 10, 2009.  The trip will allow Disciples and UCC members a first hand opportunity to witness and be involved with the children at Rawdat el Zuhur, a school where children are encouraged to reach their highest potential in an atmosphere of care, trust, and respect; while outside the Separation Wall stands high and unpleasant.  The trip will include visits to some of Global Ministries' Middle East missionaries, partners and programs around the area, an opportunity to understand their context of ministry and witness, and to learn first-hand about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  Through encounters with Christians, Jews, and Muslims, Palestinians and Israelis, you'll gain new perspectives and insight.  Of course, there will be visits to the important Biblical sites, as well. Experience your faith on an inspiring life-changing trip.  If you have questions or are interested in participating in this trip, please contact us via email at childsponsorship@ucc.org or LAWRENCL@UCC.ORG
