It is with deep sadness that the Disciples of Christ, Division of Overseas Ministries (DOM) and Global Ministries announce the death of one of our former missionaries to Paraguay and Venezuela, Ralph (R.Q.) Quincy Adams. Ralph went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2007. Ralph and his wife, Annamae, served in Paraquay from 1946 - 1964, and in Venezuela 1973-1975. Annamae passed away January 18, 2005.
Ralph was born in Olustee, Oklahoma, but grew up in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He attended Johnson Bible College in Kimberlin Heights, Tennessee, and received a B.A. degree, and a B.D. degree from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, with continuing education at Cornell University, the Kennedy School of Missions, Phillips University, and Claremont Seminary.
Ralph and Annamae's first missionary assignment was to Paraguay, arriving in September of 1945 after intensive study of the Spanish language. They started the first rural evangelism work to be done in Paraguay by the Disciples. Upon their return in 1956 from furlough, Ralph started the actual work on a new church building. As pastor of the church, his evangelistic program and efforts in Coronel Oviedo were to challenge and train lives.
In 1973, Ralph and Annamae went to Barquisimeto,Venezuela, where they served with the Evangelical Pentecostal Union of Venezuela (UEPV) in an experimental cooperative ministry of church and community development.
We thank God for R. Q. and Annamae's passion for mission, and especially for their commitment to share the Good News of Jesus Christ among the people of Paraguay and Venezuela. A grateful church celebrates their life and an exemplary ministry.
Ralph is survived by four children, Virginia Katherine (Mrs. Clinton Biggs), Walter Henry, Benjamin Harold and John Franklin. A memorial service was held on Sunday, November 18 at the Kansas Christian Home. Messages of condolence may be sent to John Adams, 2107 Lakeview SW, Albuquerque, NM 87175.
