Greetings from Global Ministries Partners in Southern Asia

November 10, 2006

Global Ministries partners and missionaries from around the world send their expressions of congratulations on the celebration of the tenth anniversary of Global Ministries.

INDIA
On your tenth year in the united journey as Global Ministries, I bring with me the whole Church of North India to congratulate you for witnessing Christ throughout the world. The last decade has seen wars, violence, ethnic conflicts, terrorism and natural disasters which have caused loss to lives and resources. Thousands of lives were swept away on 26th December, 2004 by a tsunami wave that snuffed out the Southeast Asia region. The Church of North India was shocked as our Diocese in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was hit the worst. Thousands of island residents were reported dead or missing. Thousands of lives were lost, and those spared faced difficult situations. During this crisis, the Church of North India courageously shared the news with its overseas mission partners. Global Ministries was one of those who immediately stood by us in solidarity to the challenge of rebuilding lives in the tsunami hit islands. The Nicobarese were left desperate and traumatized by the tsunami. Their dreams were shattered. But today, they are able to dream of a beautiful island. We appreciate the concern Global Ministries has towards the issues of justice, peace and the inclusion of all Creation amid the growing context of religious intolerance, communalism and individualism all over the world. The need for a resource centre for peace in one of our Dioceses was shared with Global Ministries, who responded immediately and assisted in the creation of Shanti Griha. Today, Shanti Griha has become the empowering voice of thousands of Dalits and Adivasis living in the area of Durgapur Diocese, CNI, proclaiming justice for the poor, downtrodden and marginalized. I thank Global Ministries for journeying with us in the process of bringing people from periphery to the centre, creating God’s reign in this world. The Church of North India, being a united and uniting Church, cherishes our partnership with you. We join with you in rejoicing and thanking our Almighty God for this wonderful ministry to proclaim the kingdom of God through words and deeds.
Rev. Dr. Enos Das Pradhan, General Secretary, Synod of the Church of North India

THAILAND
The fact that Global Ministries has been in existence for ten years, furthering the spread of the Gospel world-wide, is evidence that the Holy Spirit is at work in the world, meeting the challenge created by the ever-changing situations of our time. Here in Thailand, where we also strive to present a coordinated approach to carrying out the work of the Kingdom of God, we have representatives of both the UCC and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) working with us, and we are grateful for the support which is provided by Global Ministries. We congratulate Global Ministries on this, its tenth anniversary, thank God for bringing the two churches together and pray that we and they may continue to work in partnership in the future, bringing glory to God and giving praise for things accomplished in God’s name.
Mrs. Woranut Pantupong, Ecumenical Relations Officer
Rev. Dr. Sint Kimhachandra, General Secretary, Church of Christ in Thailand
