CSI: Lucy Perry Noble School

Lucy Perry Noble School is a Girls’ Secondary School in Madurai. This school was founded in 1892 to serve girls who are desperately poor, girls who have no homes, girls too old for regular school, girls who are physically handicapped – in short girls who would not otherwise have a chance in their own villages or in the city slums. Lucy Perry Noble School provides them with a home, food, education, knowledge of a loving God and it sends them forth to be nurses, teachers and good wives and mothers. The school offers a full academic course for 200 girls. In addition it has a full course in crafts: sewing, weaving, basketry, doll-making and rug-hooking. The beautiful handicrafts are sold in eight centers throughout India and the girls proudly help pay their expenses by means of the sales. Most of the girls at the school are Hindu, but Christianity is taught and makes a deep impression on them. An administration building had to be demolished in 2004-5 and construction of the new building was expected to begin in 2006
