India
Global Ministries' partner, Tilda Nursing School at the Tilda Evangelical Mission Hospital, continues to train nurses not only for Tilda Hospital, located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, but for all the Church of North India hospitals in the region of Orissa and Chhattisgarh states. The Tilda Nursing School graduates approximately 40 nurses each year and is working hard to keep up with the demand for its nurses who are recognized as some of the best of nurses in the country. The approach employed in Tilda Nursing School, which is part of a Christian Board of Nursing Education and is recognized and registered by the government, is a holistic approach where nurses are trained to serve those who are suffering by promoting physical health through medical services, and to promote spiritual health through sharing the love of Jesus Christ in a society where the great majority of the population are neglected and marginalized.
The demand for training increasing numbers of nurses has resulted in the need for the expansion of the Nurses Hostel. The urgent need for more hostel space has been created because:
- The nursing candidates at Tilda have become almost all female - a change from past classes of nurses. The women's hostel has had to accommodate an increase in female students thereby exhausting its space, while the men's hostel still is able to accommodate male staff.
- The Indian Nursing Council has added 1/2 year to the training. Current third-year students will add an additional six months' training with internship, delaying their completion and the availability of hostel space. Thus, instead of three classes, there will be four classes of students who will need accommodations. The urgency is such that a temporary accommodation arrangement has been made elsewhere for the new first-year students who will enter the school on October 1, 2007.
- As per regulations of the education board, it is necessary to provide living space (a small apartment) for the hostel warden (housemother). Therefore, provisions for this will be included in the extension project.
The School is limited by the lack of funding. If you would like to help with the expansion of the Nurses Hostel, you may make a donation to "Tilda Nursing Hostel." Your gift will provide housing for increasing nurse's training program.
