YWCA of Palestine: Women’s Rights are Human Rights

The YWCA of Palestine invites you to join us in celebrating International Women’s Day.

By 2035, 100 million young women and girls transform power structures to create justice, gender equality and a world without violence and war; leading and sustaining a YWCA Movement, inclusive of all women.”

Common Vision from 28th YWCA Council, 2015

In October 2015, during the beginning of the current uprising, delegates from the National YWCA of Palestine joined 500 delegates from 70 countries in Bangkok, Thailand to celebrate and envision

“Bold and Transformative” leadership at the World YWCA Council Gathering. We participated in plenary sessions and workshops on women’s rights, leadership, and identity and culture.

With delegates from YWCAs in Jordan and Lebanon, we issued a Call to Action entitled: Taking Action on Instituting Human Rights Standards and Implementation of UNSCR1325 in the Middle East. . UNSCR1325 has provided a solid platform for women to engage in peace building.

In December 2015, we issued our new strategic plan 2016-2020, which also calls for supporting women’s rights to participate in peace buidling, in protection and prevention of war and conflict and making perpetrators of violence accountable.

We invite you to join us in supporting women’s rights to education and economic empowerment, ending discrimination and violence against women, and supporting women’s participation in their communities and as political leaders, to their rights for safety and security. There can be no peace with justice without women’s full involvement and participation in decision-making. Let us work together to make this a reality.
