James & Jayanthi Wilson - Botswana

In having served as missionaries for over 18 years, one of the things repeatedly made know to us is the fact that it is never through our own strength but God through Christ Jesus, that enables us to meet the challenges that we are made to face. Yes, through work and the people we meet, God instructs us in the way which we shall go; who strengthens us in our moments of weakness.

I will counsel you and watch over you.  (NIV)  Psalm 32:8

In leading the Hebrew people out of the land of Egypt, one cannot help but believe that God instructed Moses in the way he should go. Moses in standing in God's presence was on holy ground....i.e. when he stood in front of the burning bush and heard the voice of God...when he stood in front of Pharaoh and proclaimed the will of God...when he stood on God's Holy Mountain and received the Law...

Yes, at various times as we stand in God's presence....and it is God who teaches us ....sustains us, awakens our faith, generates hope and inspires us to love. Sometimes, I can truly say, "I sometimes know what God is like" as we attempt to serve as your Overseas Mission Partners in Botswana.

  • When dedicated staff members at Sedibeng, where Jayanthi works, come to work each to help disadvantaged youth to gain the necessary job skills to sustain them in life,  even though they haven't received a salary in months because of funding issues; who draw strength from God to do that which needs to  be  done.
  • When  various students at Kgolagano College volunteer time in service to God   - the one who goes weekly to the local government hospital to volunteer time to work with children; the student who although HIV positive, inspires and organizes HIV positive women in her local village- helping them to be empowered, and to feel God's presence.
  • In receiving a gracious gift received from our North American churches partners, through Global Ministries, which has enabled us to assemble a special collection of theological books for prisoners which can be borrowed for an extended period of time through the prison chaplains.
  • In hearing of the continuing interest of churches in North America towards mission   - locally, regionally as well as globally; a commitment to helping others and sharing the Good news that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Perhaps that is why we are such enthusiastic supporters of Mission in the Church....because through our involvement we not only make a difference in the world, but we are also blessed with an opportunity of learning more about whom God is and the nature of the Kingdom.
