Benjamin Ewert

How would you describe the mission of our partner in Thailand?

The Church of Christ in Thailand is the largest Protestant denomination in the country.

How do you fit into their mission?

I am a volunteer English teacher at Udon Christian Wittaya School in Udonthani, which is an affiliate school of the CCT.

What led you to engage in this calling?

After I graduated seminary in 2009, I was living with the question of whether God wanted me to teach or preach.  This way I can do both.

Is there a passage of scripture that carries special meaning in your daily work?

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11

"I can do everything through him who gives me strength." -Philippians 4:13

"The LORD is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation." -Psalm 118:14

What are some challenges facing you in Thailand?

Some challenges for me include adapting to the Thai culture, customs and in learning the Thai language; also teaching for the first time in a school where there's a communication barrier between the students and me.

What lessons have you learned working alongside the people of Thailand?

Thailand is 95% Buddhist, and the lesson lies in the fact that Christians are a minority here.

Which books have influenced your understanding of your work in Thailand?
