Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ (UCC) in Conover, North Carolina has been providing support for the work of Global Ministries and global partners around the world through the Wagoner International Mission Fund. This fund was established from a bequest of John (1912-1974) and Vera (1912-2004) Wagoner.

Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oregon and Southwest Idaho donates regional vehicle to Global Ministries!

After over 135,000 miles of regional church travel, the Regional Car of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oregon and Southwest Idaho was donated with the proceeds to go to Global Ministries. In a Regional Board meeting, the board decided it would be a meaningful opportunity to “continue the ministry” of the regional vehicle through supporting the work of Global Ministries.

Manhattan Beach Community Church in Manhattan Beach, California Raises Funds for Displaced Syrians at Alternative Christmas Fair

Manhattan Beach Community Church’s Alternative Christmas Fair - started in the mid-1980s by a member of the congregation - has evolved from an event that featured one nonprofit organization into a larger project. It features organizations that align with the goals of the congregation while seeking to highlight a variety of organizations, geographic locations, and types of work. The Fair now includes both religious and secular organizations.

St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chesterfield, Missouri Raises Funds for Puerto Rico

February 2020 was “Have a Heart for Puerto Rico” month at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chesterfield, Missouri.  On the first Sunday the congregation kicked off the campaign to raise funds to contribute to Global Ministries partners in Puerto Rico, with the introduction of a $3,000 challenge goal and a large heart-shaped poster to be used as a thermometer of funds that were raised. That day information was shared regarding the recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico during children’s time.  It was explained that the earthquakes came after the major destruction of Hurricane Maria, and the partner churches in Puerto Rico were struggling to recover.

United Church of Christ holds Tree Planting Campaign for the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the United Church of Christ Three Great Loves initiative held a tree planting campaign. During the months of February, March, and April 2020, funds were received for the planting of 9,668 trees in total. Some of the funds raised   supported the planting of trees in national parks in the United States by the Arbor Day Foundation while congregations and individuals also reported self-planted trees to Interfaith Power and Light.  Another portion of these funds were raised to support the tree planting efforts of three Global Ministries partners. The Organization of African Instituted Churches’s Tree for Life Project in Kenya plants trees in areas identified as priority regions for reforestation in East Africa; Theological Education by Extension in Zambia’s Green Church project trains new Climate Ambassadors who plant trees in communities across Zambia; and the YMCA/YWCA of Palestine’s Keep Hope Alive! Olive tree planting campaign, plants olive trees as part of an effort where trees have been the target of attacks.

Global Ministries partners addressing the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many of our lives in a significant way, both in North America and globally. It is in times like this that the work of partnership and presence of Global Ministries and international partners provides needed encouragement, hope, and care to all of God's children. Global Ministries is present with communities grappling with the effects of COVID-19 all over the world through church partners who are advocating for good public health practices, caring for vulnerable members of society, and advocating for actions and policies that can help to save lives.
