“Rivers of living water” (John 7:37-38) are running from the heart of Global Ministries these days!
- In November 2012 the Common Global Ministries Board (CGMB) approved a new Long-Range Plan for the next years. The process of reflection and articulation of our Vision, That all of God’s people and creation share in God’s abundant life, Mission, Core Values, and four Strategic Directions are energizing our work moving forward. Staff members are articulating Operational Objectives for each Strategic Direction – including the establishment of three new Child Sponsorship sites and funding priorities centered around justice for women, food security, climate change, human trafficking, and migration. Please let us know if we can send you a copy of the one-page plan!
- The new Strategic Directions have led us to choose a particular region to prioritize and emphasize for a period of up to two years. The Congo Initiative will be the first of these emphases; a team is working toward the launching of this initiative in July 2013. The Congo Initiative will present new and varied opportunities for UCC and Disciples to engage with church partners through Bible studies elaborated by both Congolese and U.S. pastors; People-to-People Pilgrimages and volunteer exchanges to and from the Congo; promotion of special giving projects based on the Congolese church’s priorities; and education/action on the top advocacy issues needing our attention.
- Global Ministries is embarking on several pilot projects this year to implement innovative and creative approaches to funding new missionary appointments. We are called to better respond to the many requests for mission personnel from our partner churches and programs!
We join our global partners in celebration of major accomplishments in the last year such as the rebuilding of the school, seminary, and nursing school of CONASPEH in Haiti; and the visit of former President Jimmy Carter to China to unveil a statue of former missionary, Dr. William Macklin, and to dedicate a new wing at the Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital in China.
Despite difficult economic times for many churches and worthy ministries, we in Global Ministries also are motivated by wonderful signs of God’s global mission and are inspired by the strength and vitality of our partners. YOU are an important part of living out God’s abundant life, and we give thanks for you. Please join us in giving generously to the work of Global Ministries.
