Daniel Lyvers (Disciples) & Chris Gilmore (UCC), Organizers
Jeff Wright, Host
Many first-century conditions that shaped Jesus' life and ministry continue to shape the lives of Palestinians and Israelis today. In addition to exploring the holy stones — the historic places and sites that have defined our faith—participants will engage the Living Stones: Jews, Muslims and Christians who live in the land.
Experienced tour leader Jeff Wright serves as long-term Global Service Worker through the Disciples of Christ/UCC Global Ministries, having traveled there many times. Jeff retired as lead pastor of Heart of the Rockies Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) located in Fort Collins, Colorado, and is assigned by Global Ministries to the Bethlehem office of Kairos Palestine. The tour will be accompanied by a professional local guide.
To facilitate conversation, take advantage of unplanned opportunities and provide a more enriching experience, tour size is limited to twenty-four persons. Participants will: explore the holy sites of Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Nazareth; visit a settlement, the Abrahamic mosque and divided city of Hebron; tour Jericho and float on the Dead Sea; share communion on the shore of the Sea of Galilee; harvest at Tent of Nations; visit Global Ministries partners at Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center, B’tselem, Rawdat el Zahur School, East Jerusalem YMCA, Kairos Palestine, and other partners for peace such as Parents Circle; meet and discuss differing perspectives on the current social/economic/political situation with Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders.
