Global Ministries is in partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), of which the Christmas Lutheran Church is one congregation. Global Ministries has supported the work of the Christmas Lutheran Church and the Diyar Consortium in a variety of ways. The Outreach Christmas Program at Christmas Lutheran Church is supported by the Diyar Consortium, a Lutheran-based ecumenically-inclined group of institutions serving the whole Palestinian community “from the womb to the tomb.” Their emphasis is on children, youth, women, and elders. Diyar means “houses” and is the plural of “Dar” or “house.” It is the umbrella organization to which the Dar al-Kalima Health and Wellness Center, the International Center of Bethlehem (Dar Annadwa), and Dar al- Kalima College belong.

The main objective of the Outreach Christmas Program is to organize and implement an annual event to present and promote the importance of the Christmas story to the Bethlehem community, especially for families and children. The goal is to organize a special celebration to affirm the importance and relevance of Christmas to contemporary society, and to celebrate its forgiveness and reconciliation message in the place where Jesus was born. To support this goal, they plan to invite 300 Muslim and Christian families in Bethlehem to come to the International Center of Bethlehem to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to celebrate Christmas in Bethlehem by giving away 1,000 copies of the new book A Special Sheep by Nohemí Pagán.

Gifts to support the Christmas Program may be used in the following ways:

  • A gift of $5.00 can provide A Special Sheep book to one family
  • A gift of $50.00 can help cover refreshments for guests to the program
