Hurricanes Irma and Harvey have battered the southern coast of the United States as well as wreaking untold damage across the Caribbean. Many of the most heavily hit areas have not been heard from yet, and this page will be updated as new information from partners is received.
Please continue to hold all of those impacted in your prayers.

In 2017, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma organized a Global Ministries People-to-People Pilgrimage to visit global partner, Caminante in the Dominican Republic. This is a pilgrimage the region has offered each summer for the past nine years. Each year, the group participants think of different material items to bring from Oklahoma that will support the work of Caminante. As this year’s group began planning, they decided to raise funds for Caminante’s growing summer outreach programs – the programs the group would be participating in during their pilgrimage.Read more

Prayers for the Dominican Republic:
We are grateful for the many blessings you provide. From spiritual health to physical sustenance, we know that we are always receiving your grace in one form or another, for this we thank you. As we journey together to build a healthy future, teach us new ways to practice these gospel lessons. We pray for our brothers and sisters at Servicios Sociales de Iglesias Dominicanas (SSID) as they practice the compassionate wisdom Jesus teaches in the Gospel of Matthew. We pray their strength as they witness the many ways that rural communities experience political and social dismissal. For each opportunity to retaliate, we pray your perfect Love become their inspiration and guide their responses. We lift up each family represented in the network of SSID, may their deepest needs be met…may the power of the peace that comes from this carry into each project, community, and workshop facilitated by SSID that your endless love abound with greater and greater force.
Lectionary Selection: Matthew 1:18-25
Prayers for the Dominican Republic:
You have given us many ways to receive your messages and love your creation better. Open our minds so that we receive dreams the way Joseph did. Soften our hearts so that we act with empathy in our relationships the way Joseph did. Strengthen our courage so that we accept the challenges you present to us in this life.
We lift up the developing partnerships of Caminante. Bless them as they journey into new projects and communities. Keep us ready to learn of new and challenging ways to honor them as our partner in mission.
May their deepest need be met by your unending love. May they continue to choose us as a companion in this work of making things on Earth as they are in Heaven.
We will continue posting updates to this page as they are received with the most recent news at the top.Read more
Trip is at capacity, please keep an eye out for future travel opportunities
Global Ministries invites you to join in a transformational pilgrimage to visit partners in Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic this fall. From October 3rd to the 13th participants will experience the life giving work of three of the child sponsorship sites - Mt. Olivet Boys' Home, Pringle Children’s Home, and House of Hope, as well as witnessing the work of four partners – CONASPEH, the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, Caminante, and CECAF.
During this trip you will have the opportunity to meet with the children and adults that are benefiting from the ministries of partners in the region while learning first-hand about the joys and concerns facing the people that we walk with in partnership.
This opportunity is being organized by the Child and Elder Sponsorship Program, the Latin America & Caribbean Office, and the People-to-People Pilgrimage program.
