Prayers for the Dominican Republic
O eternal God, we come to you today full of hope and excitement for the journey ahead. The path before us today was laid out by your son Jesus Christ, who so vividly showed us how to speak and serve. Lord we know the challenges facing the people of the Dominican Republic are hard, but that we are surrounded with support from brothers and sisters around the world. Lord, we believe in your works with all our heart and strive to reflect them here in Boca Chica. We ask you Lord to please keep close those struggling with troubled hearts and that you guide them to nourishing communities.

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are,29 so that no one[i] might boast in the presence of God. 30 He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption…” 1st of Corinthians 27-30 (NRSV)Read more

Prayers for the Dominican Republic:
Dear God, we pray today for the Dominican Republic and all those striving to be instruments of change here. Please hold Caminante Education Project in the palms of your hands as they walk with the community toward a future filled with your love and grace. Caminante is here in Boca Chica because your people are calling out with cries of need and neglect and also with hope and sacrifice. Caminante is here to follow your example; projecting and teaching your ways to all who come no matter their age or immigration status.
We acknowledge that ministry can be difficult. Wonderfully, the Gospel tells us that whenever we feel inadequate or overwhelmed, you remind us that our gifts in any form or amount is meaningful. The poverty that surrounds us Lord is real, but it is not a reason to despair. You have provided us with the richness of the Gospel, of brothers and sisters who care for us, and enduring hope for tomorrow. Amen.Read more

As I write this, I can hear the laughter. It echoes through the halls of Caminante’s office in a wonderful imitation of the children we serve! Caminante Proyecto Educativo, or Caminante Education Project in English, has a staff of approximately twenty people moving about their schedules with a joy you must experience to fully grasp. During my first six months here, I have grown synthesized to the team's laughter and singing during surprise birthday celebrations, Dominican and Christian holidays, and even while just sitting at their desks in the office! I am incredibly happy to be their Global Ministries Intern because Caminante loves what it does and I feel fulfilled assisting!Read more
