Earthquake Update ARI

This month I was blessed to be present for a baptism of a young man at the Kawadaira Church in Sendai.

In my last letter I reported about the unusually hot summer we had in Japan. As I write we are in the midst of one of the coldest winters and record breaking heavy snows all over the country.

Just last month I traveled with some college students to join a work camp at the Asian Rural Institute (ARI). This is a program we offer twice a year for young people to have the chance to “learn through doing.”

This Summer was the hottest Summer on record in Japan. It is September now as I write and the temperatures are not going down!

Every Wednesday at noon, Mrs. E is there. She sits in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul, Korea with her friends to ask the Japanese government to apologize for its past treatment of Korean women as sex slaves during the Asia Pacific War. Mrs. E is elderly, as are her friends.

Global Ministries is saddened to learn of the death of William (Bill) Stanley Cundiff on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Pilgrim Place, Claremont, California. Bill served as a missionary/teacher in Sendai, Japan, from 1952 to 1995.
