Divina Himaya Scholarship Fund

Philippines

The Divina Himaya Scholarship Fund was established at the request of Dr. Divina del Carmen Himaya, of Claremont CA. The Fund is a grateful tribute to Dr. Himaya’s former professors who were U.S mission co-workers at Silliman University in the Philippines, as well as the individuals and churches in the United States that enabled her to pursue four years of college through grants and scholarships. Special recognition goes to Dean James McKinley and his wife, Virginia McKinley, Frances Thompson, and to Alvin and Marilee Scaff, mission co-workers from what today is the United Church of Christ, who were interned in the Philippines during World War II and who yet served in the Philippines right after the war.

Income from the Fund is by the Global Ministries East Asia and Pacific Office to: 1) provide scholarship assistance to students of the Silliman University Divinity School in Dumaguete City, Philippines; and 2) equip and assist pastors serving local churches of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines by providing leadership, education, and pastoral training.

The Divina Himaya Scholarship Fund provides an opportunity for donors, especially constituents of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), but not exclusively, to make contributions to a permanent fund that will provide Global Ministries resources with which to support education and leadership training for ministry in the Philippines.

Contributions may be made to the principal of this Fund at any time. Gifts for the Divina Himaya Scholarship Fund may be made by check written to Wider Church Ministries and directed to:
