Christian Church in Oregon co-regional minister, Cathy Wirt, writes of an opportunity to support micro-loans to women/families through the Ecumenical Foundation for Integral Development, Training and Education in Ecuador (FEDICE) to start chicken-raising projects as a way for Ecuadoran indigenous women to generate income for themselves and their families. The Regional Youth Council purchased a chicken suit and wandered around in Regional Assembly 2010 and sold plastic eggs with little fuzzy chicks and chocolate kisses in them. The Oregon Disciple Youth raised over $600 in a very short time, and continued to show up at functions throughout the Region. With the assistance of the chicken suit project, the Region raised $38,000 in support of the chicken-raising projects.
