Have a Ball at Primary School

Lesotho

The Lesotho Evangelical Church (LEC) is one of Africa’s oldest Protestant churches, founded in 1833 by missionaries from the Paris Evangelical Mission society. The LEC is Lesotho’s oldest African denomination and today has several hundred thousand members in over 100 parishes which include hundreds of outstations. The LEC is the Lesotho church partner of Global Ministries.   The LEC has approximately 500 primary schools in all areas of the country.

Since LEC primary school education is free, schools have very limited budgets when it comes to purchasing extras, such as teaching aids and materials, art supplies, sports equipment, materials for making outfits for cultural performances, etc.  Have a Ball at Primary School will involve purchasing and delivering school supplies to LEC primary schools.

It is hoped that the funding will allow as many schools as possible to benefit from the project.  Schools will be identified by the LEC Education Office.  Schools will be asked to identify items they could use. After the materials are purchased, they will be delivered by the Planning Office and/or LEC Education Office.

Benefits of this project include:

  • improved teaching & learning
  • improved participation in physical exercise and sports
  • more opportunities to be involved with art
  • greater participation in cultural presentations

Global Ministries and the LEC do not request school supplies to be shipped to Lesotho for this purpose as this method is not cost effective.  Instead, financial gifts for this project may be sent to Global Ministries and will be used in their entirety to purchase the supplies at a much lower cost in Lesotho, involving only local transportation of the supplies.
