25 new MMIs trained in Michigan on November 4, 2006
The Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ hosted a joint Ministries and Mission Interpreters training event for Disciples and UCC church members at the Conference office in East Lansing on Saturday November 4, 2006.
The Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ hosted a joint Ministries and Mission Interpreters training event for Disciples and UCC church members at the Conference office in East Lansing on Saturday November 4, 2006.
The day long event was divided up into 4 main sessions. The first session entitled “Global Ministries 101” helped participants understand the basics of our common witness in mission: history, guiding principles, mission theology, structure, staffing, funding, statistics, etc.
The second session was focused on the challenge of being a global mission church. Ten ideas for how a congregation can take the next step in their mission involvement through Global Ministries were shared.
In the third session, specific training was given on preparing a variety of mission presentations. The group members shared motivating mission moments with one another using Global Ministries’ stories, resources and give-aways.
In the final session, after spending time brainstorming in geographic groupings, each participant wrote an action plan for the next year. The day long training event was concluded by a commissioning service.
This model of Conference/Region joint MMI training event seems to be a great way to make visible our “common witness”. The Northwest Region and Pacific Northwest Conference were the first to host an event of this type March 31 to April 1, 2006. The Michigan Conference and Region have just successfully done this.
