Pray with Sierra Leone, March 15, 2026

Lectionary Selection: John 9:1-41

Prayers for Sierra Leone

God of light and compassion,

You opened the eyes of a man born blind through your Son, Jesus (John 9:1-41). We ask you now to open our eyes in Sierra Leone—to see injustices for what they are, to respond with courage, and to choose peace that flows from justice and truth, even when it is hard.

We hold before you the people of Malen Chiefdom in Pujehun District, and all communities affected by conflict, land loss, and displacement. Too many families have been uprooted by decisions that did not protect their land and their voices, leaving deep wounds behind. Where there is pain, bring healing. Where there is division, bring reconciliation. Where hope feels distant, plant it again.

Strengthen communities of men, women, and families who are rebuilding their lives with determination—through small livelihoods, savings groups, and shared effort. Honour their resilience and bless the work of their hands.

We thank you for the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone and its partners—Global Ministries, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), United Church of Christ, and Christian Aid. Grant wisdom, protection, and strength to all who serve in this work.

Guide our nation toward justice, unity, and lasting peace.

Amen

Rebuilding Livelihoods and Collective Strength after Displacement in Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District-Sierra Leone

In Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District, communities have lived for years with tension and loss linked to land and natural resources. Gaps in land protection policies left many families exposed when large investors arrived. Farmers lost land they had depended on for generations. Some were forced to leave their homes, starting over in nearby communities with little more than their skills and determination.

For many displaced women, survival meant selling small goods or growing vegetables behind their homes—just enough to feed their families day by day.

Through partnership between the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL), Global Ministries, and Christian Aid, we are accompanying these women and families through the Peacebuilding and Livelihood Enhancement and Assets for Peace (LEAP) Project. The project brings people together for dialogue while supporting practical livelihoods through Village Savings and Loan Associations, small businesses, and group farming.

One woman shared how access to a small loan and group support changed her outlook. What once felt like endless survival became the possibility of planning ahead. She grew her petty trading business, supported her children’s schooling, and found the confidence to speak in community dialogue meetings.

As incomes grow, trust is slowly being rebuilt among the 630 conflict-affected women. Neighbours are learning again how to listen, cooperate, and heal together. This work shows how faith, partnership, and patience can restore dignity and nurture peace.
