Communion of Churches in Indonesia Statement on Israeli Attack on Humanitarian Aid Shipment

Statement by the Communion of Churches in Indonesia on the incident of Israeli attack against humanitarian mission ship Mavi Marmara

The incident of the Israeli attacks against humanitarian mission ship Mavi Marmara, Sunday, May 31, 2010 in the international waters of the Gulf of Gaza, which have claimed casualties, is negligence against dignity of humanity.  Clearly this incident is an act of arrogance and cruelty of Israel, which can not be justified.  Whatever the reason may be, this action has hurt the efforts towards the Israeli-Palestinian peace struggled by the international community.

In connection with the incident, the Communion of Church in Indonesia:

  1. Comdemns the Israeli military attack against humanitarian mission ship Mavi Marmara, which has claimed victims of civilians, humanitarian workers, and the media.
  2. Urges the establisment of an investigation team of the Mavi Marmara incident by the United Nations.
  3. Urges the United Nations to force Israel and Egypt to pull out all the blockades that prevent the entry of humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strop and demands UN troops who serve in the Palestinian-Israeli border to watch and guard the convoy of humanitarian aid such as Mavi Marmara so that similar incidents will not recur.
  4. Calls upon all elements of the nation and especially Christians in Indonesia to say a prayer for all the efforst for peace in the Middle East and jointly or separately to call on solidarity on behalf of the victims.

This is our press statement to respond to the incident of Israeli troops’ attack against the humanitarian mission ship Mavi Maramara.
