CMEP Bulletin: Prospects for Peace: Obama’s Last Stand

On November 23, CMEP’s Executive Director Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon led a panel of Washington experts including Lara Friedman (Americans for Peace Now), Mitchell Plitnick (Foundation for Middle East Peace) and Dr. James Zogby (Arab American Institute), in a webinar discussion. These experts concluded that the most courageous act President Obama could make would be to support a United Nations Security council (UNSC) resolution that clearly states that all Israeli settlements are illegal. Take Action! Settlements Block Peace.
Join CMEP in asking President Obama to be courageous and support a United Nations resolution calling all settlements illegal. Since the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993 the settler population in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has more than doubled and over 50,000 new settlement units have been built. It has been long standing U.S. policy that Israeli settlements are illegal and an obstacle to a peace agreement that would result in security and human rights for all Israelis and Palestinians.
