Death of Former Missionary in the Philippines, Rev. Leonard Brummett

The Division of Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries has received word of the passing of former missionary, Rev. Leonard Brummett, on Monday, July 14.

The Division of Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries has received word of the passing of former missionary, Rev. Leonard Brummett, on Monday, July 14, 2008.

Len was born in Childress County, Texas, on Aug. 13, 1926. He was ordained to the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in July 1952. His calling in that capacity involved service as a missionary in the Philippines from June 1952 to March 1958, and also served pastorates in Little Rock, Ark., Columbia, Mo., and Mount Carmel, Ill.  Following his retirement, he served as interim pastor for five churches in Kentucky and Indiana.

Len’s ministry has been shared by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Mitchum Brummett, who survives him. He is also survived by one daughter, Kimberly Aliseri and three sons, Barry Scott, Gregory Alan and Kevin Paul.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Beauna Vista and Vada Williams Brummett; and one sister, Nell Parnell.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at First Christian Church. Drs. Lon Oliver, Linda Parker and David Leslie will officiate.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Henderson, KY., or the American Cancer Society.
