Death of Dr. Richard B. Updegraff, former missionary to Turkey, Ghana, and Liberia

Global Ministries is saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Richard B. Updegraff.  Dr. Updegraff died August 23, 2013 at the age of 84 in the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minnesota.

Richard was born October 4, 1928, to missionary parents in Miraj, India.  He spent his childhood in India and returned to the US to attend Oberlin College and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.

He and his wife, fellow physician Dr. Virginia Updegraff, worked in missionary hospitals in Turkey, Ghana, and Liberia from 1961 to 1984.  They moved to Duluth in 2000. Virginia died in March 2013.

Dr. Richard Updegraff is survived by his children, Ruth Updegraff of Santa Cruz, California; Nancy Ames of Baker City, Oregon; Gwen Updegraff of Duluth; David Updegraff of Duluth; and Karen Updegraff of Brimson.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, August 25, at St. Paul Episcopal Church, in Duluth.
