Death of Kathleen “Kitty” Bailey Havens Austin, former missionary to Congo and Nepal

 

February 2, 1930 – April 24, 2011

Global Ministries is saddened to learn of the death of Kathleen
“Kitty” Bailey Havens Austin. 
Kitty died April 24, 2011, at the age of 81. She was born February 2,
1930, to E.P. and Gussie Bailey, in Chula, Virginia. She was preceded in death
by her husbands, Ray H. Havens and Dr. Spencer P. Austin. She is survived by
her children Kathy (Grant) Gassaway; Nancy (Terry) Havens Dillon; Doug (Janet)
Havens; and Judy (Dave) Coleman; Roy (Freda) Austin; Jack (Patricia) Austin;
and Margaret “Midge” Austin Beguin (Jean-Jacques); and seventeen
grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She devoted her adult life to
serving the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), working as a missionary in
Congo from 1967 to 1970 with her husband, Ray. 
They also served in Nepal from 1973 through 1976.  Kitty spent her time volunteering for
numerous organizations, including the church, the Indianapolis Children’s
Museum, and Robin Run retirement community. She loved to travel, and took trips
both within and outside the U.S. A memorial service is being planned for a
later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ray H. Havens
Fund or the Spencer P. and Kathleen B. Austin Memorial Fund, Christian Church
