Death of Mary Elizabeth Robbins, former missionary to Mexico

October 23, 1938 – October 4, 2012

Global Ministries was saddened to learn of the death of Mary Elizabeth Robbins, former missionary to Mexico.  Mary was born October 23, 1938, in Goodland, Kansas, to Emmon LaVerne and Opal Clarenda (Tittle) Robbins and went to meet her Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Weatherford Living Center in Weatherford, Oklahoma.  Mary graduated from Ashland High School in Kansas and attended college at Wichita University, then received a Master’s degree in Psychology from Texas Christian University.  

Mary then went to Costa Rica, sponsored by her church, to study Spanish and served as an educational missionary in Mexico for the next four years.  She moved back to Kansas and worked in the Social Security Department for the state of Kansas both in Wichita and Topeka for over 30 years.  After retiring in 2005, Mary moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to be closer to extended family.  She accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager and was baptized into the Disciples of Christ Church.  Mary became a member of the Federated Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.  She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the local hospital and nursing home. 

Mary is survived by her brother, Armen Robbins and wife, Carolyn of Okeene, Oklahoma; her brother’s inherited family: his daughter, Linda Tinsley and husband, Steve of Weatherford, Oklahoma; sons, Stan Merrifield and wife, Theresa of Enid, Oklahoma; Joe Merrifield and wife, Kelly; and Robert Merrifield all of Stillwater, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Memorial services to honor Mary Elizabeth Robbins were held Monday, October 8, 2012, at Federated Church with Pastor Rick Connelly officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Federated Church, Post Office Box 511, Weatherford, OK  73096-0511 or the American Cancer Society.
