Mary Kay Hobbs, missionary in Hong Kong, 1983-1990 passed away January 10, 2006.

Mary Kay Hobbs, missionary in Hong Kong, 1983-1990 passed away January 10, 2006.

She is survived by her 17-year-old daughter, Emily (Mei Ning). Mary Kay worked as a staff person for the Ecumenical Peace Program in Asia (EPPIA) with the Christian Conference of Asia. She was jointly appointed by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Prior to her appointment, Mary Kay served as an educational consultant at Tao Fong Shan Ecumenical Centre in the New Territories area of Hong Kong; taught English at Wisconsin State University and Western Michigan University; and was the director of the Center for Teaching about China in Chicago. She also taught for a year in Ethiopia and Uganda.

A memorial service was held Sunday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Lombard, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, Global Ministries has sent a donation to a memorial fund for her daughter Emily.  Notes of condolence may be sent to Emily and Mary Kay’s sister, Nancy Jackson at 2S424 Emerald Green Dr., Unit E, Warrenville, IL 60555.
