Colleagues:

I am very sorry to share the sad news that Scott Libbey died last night at a hospital in Des Moines.  Scott was one of the great saints of the United Church of Christ.  He served for many years as Conference Minister of the Iowa Conference, and in 1985 was elected Executive Vice

President of the United Church Board for World Ministries, a predecessor body to WCM.  Scott served in that role until 1993 when he retired.  For the last years of his ministry as EVP he lived and worked here in Cleveland as the national offices relocated from New York.  Scott and his wife Jean retired to Des Moines, Iowa.  About two years ago they moved to a retirement home at Mayflower Homes, a UCC-related institution in Grinnell.

We will take time on Wednesday morning, at our regular chapel service, to remember Scott’s ministry.  Those of us who had the joy and privilege of working with Scott remember him for his wisdom, his warm affection, and his constant words of encouragement.  Please keep Jean and their children in your prayers.
