Death of Reverend Silversity Madrazo

Global Ministries is saddened to announce that Reverend Silversity Madrazo died April 20, 2010, at the Madrazo home in Federal Way, Washington.  Silversity was the wife of Dr. Carlos Madrazo, Global Ministries missionary to the Protestant Church of East Timor.  She was 75 and a member of Bethany United Church of Christ (UCC) Seattle, but had recently been participating at Wayside United Church of Christ in Federal Way.  Silversity had courageously lived with cancer for twelve years but continued to be active in church and community, serving on UCC Conference committees and the King County Advisory Council for the Elderly and Disabled.

Reverend Silversity Madrazo was ordained in 1977 in the Philippines and served as a missionary with her husband, Carlos, whom she married in 1960.  She served as a missionary in Nepal and Bangladesh. She also served in Chicago as an Associate Minister of the Philippine American Ecumenical United Church of Christ.  She and Carlos were volunteers at the Yakama Indian Christian Mission (a Disciple home-mission outreach) in White Swan, Washington, from 1984-1988.

Silversity taught in the Seattle schools. Her ministerial standing has been in the UCC Pacific Northwest Conference since 1987.  She is survived by her husband, Carlos, of East Timor; a daughter, Eunice Madrazo Espia in the Philippines; and a son, Joshua Madrazo of Federal Way.

A Memorial Service in Silversity’s honor will be held at Wayside United Church of Christ at 3:00 p.m. on May 8, 2010.  Letters of appreciation and condolence can be sent to the Madrazo family home at 1018 South 317th Street, Federal Way, WA   98003.  Memorial gifts may be made at any Bank of America to the Silversity A. Madrazo Fund or gifts for the Fund may be sent to Joshua Madrazo, 809 Nob Hill, Apt. D, Seattle, Washington  98109.
