November 15, 1931–September 17, 2010

Global Ministries is saddened to learn of the death of Rosalind (Rosie) Fleshman, former missionary to the Democratic Republic of Congo, on September 17, 2010.

Rosie was born in Kirksville, Missouri, on November 15, 1931, the daughter of Frederick Hernando and Ieca Roine (Greenlee) Lowrance.  During the “war years” she moved, with her parents, first to Utah and then to Idaho where she graduated from Rupert High School in 1949.

In 1950, Rosie moved to Eugene, Oregon, to continue her education.  She received a Bachelor of Theology degree from Northwest Christian College (now Northwest Christian University) in 1953, a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955, and a Master of Education degree in 1962 from the University of Oregon.  She had additional post graduate studies at Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University, The College of Missions, Drew University, the l’école pratique de la langue française de l’alliance française, and the University of Oregon.

Rosie met Carl Dwight Fleshman while they were both students at the University of Oregon and they married on June 8, 1956. They served together as educational missionaries in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1966 to 1973. The last 18 years of her working life, Rosie served as Food Service Administrator at Lebanon Community Hospital and was pleased and honored when the newly remodeled hospital cafeteria was named “Rosie’s Café” shortly after her retirement.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Roberta and Carol, and by one grandson, Ryan. She is survived by her husband, Carl, her daughters, Sherrie Fleshman, Becky Hart, Beth Reynolds, and Marquette Fleshman and by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held September 25, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at Keizer Christian Church, Keizer, Oregon.

Memorial gifts may be made in Rosie’s name and sent to Global Ministries, P.O. Box 1986, Indianapolis, IN 46206, designated for The Lycee Nsang ea Ndotsi, the Disciple girls high school in Mbandanka, Congo where Rosie and Carl served as missionaries.   Condolences may be sent to Carl Fleshman, 4662 Rivergrove Court N, Keizer, OR  97303-6247.
