Global Ministries is saddened to learn of the death of Ruth Hofsteter, of Massillon, Ohio, on Monday, November 28, 2011.

Ruth was born in Akron on September 19, 1918, to Calvin and Emma (Graber) Hofsteter. She was a graduate of The College of Wooster and Western Reserve College.

She began her missionary service in 1947, when she and about 1,200 other missionaries traveled to India at the end of World War II. For more than 36 years, Ruth served as a nurse and midwife in rural hospitals, including the Evangelical Hospital in Khariar, and as a nursing supervisor in the central regions of India. She retired in 1983 and returned to Ohio. She was a member of Myers United Church of Christ, in Massillon.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Dr. Grace Hofsteter of Canton, Ohio. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Hofsteter, and his wife, Louella.

Following her wishes, there were no calling hours. Graveside services were Tuesday, November 29, at Westlawn Cemetery, in Mount Eaton, Ohio. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton was in charge of arrangements.
