Devastating Floods in Nepal

Global Ministries is standing with partners and communities in Nepal following devastating floods that have claimed hundreds of lives and left many more missing.

The people of Nepal are facing a devastating humanitarian crisis after catastrophic floods and flash flooding claimed hundreds of lives, left people missing, and displaced thousands from their homes.

The flooding has destroyed homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, making it difficult for rescuers and humanitarian organizations to reach some of the hardest-hit communities. The situation remains dangerous, with authorities warning of the possibility of additional flash flooding.

Global Ministries is in communication with one of its partners in Nepal, who is currently in Chitwan, an area significantly affected by the disaster. While grateful that the partner’s team is safe, their firsthand account conveys the profound loss and uncertainty facing communities.

“We are very grateful for your prayers and for remembering us during this difficult situation. Our team is safe, and I am now in Chitwan, an area affected by the disaster.

We can’t imagine the loss of life. The dead bodies are floating on the riverbank, and people are hopeless. The road access to the affected area is broken, and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued an alert about the possibility of another flash flood. Given the urgency, we are exploring ways to provide immediate humanitarian support to the most affected families, particularly those who are displaced or at imminent risk.

At this critical moment, we would greatly appreciate your prayers for Nepal. We will continue to keep you updated on the situation.”

Global Ministries is preparing to respond to the needs identified by its partner and to provide aid as it becomes possible to safely and effectively reach affected communities. As with other humanitarian responses, Global Ministries will work through its established relationships with local partners who understand the needs of their communities and are best positioned to determine how assistance can be provided.

In the midst of tragedy, our global partnerships remind us that we are connected across borders and continents. The suffering of our neighbors in Nepal is not theirs to bear alone.

We pray with the people of Nepal. We stand with our partners. And we remain committed to responding together.
