Disciples and UCC leaders join in letter to UN Security Council on crisis in Israel/Palestine

The General Ministers and Presidents of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ, and Co-Executices of Global Ministries, joined more than 50 other church leaders from North America and Europe calling on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to secure an immediate ceasefire to the current violence in Israel/Palestine. The letter also urges the UNSC “to act immediately to address the continuing underlying causes of injustice that will otherwise remain a constant threat to peace in the Holy Land: occupation, land dispossession, displacement, and the withholding of basic human rights we take for granted.” In addition to the signatures of the Rev. Teresa Hord Owens and the Rev. Dr. John Dorhauer, respectively the Disciples and UCC heads of communion, and the Revs. Drs. Julia Brown Karimu and Karen Georgia Thompson, Co-Executives of Global Ministries, leaders of Disciples and UCC partner churches in the UK, the United Reformed Church and the Church of Scotland also signed, in addition to the many other ecumenical leaders, including from the National Council of Churches in the USA and Churches for Middle East Peace, of which both the Disciples and UCC are members.
