The DOM Presidential Search Committee has extended the application deadline to January 26, 2011.  The Office of Search and Call was closed from December 17-January 3, 2011.  Thus, the committee felt  this was an appropriate action to ensure that all potential candidates have an opportunity to apply. The initial announcement is repeated below:

The board of the Division of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has begun the search for qualified candidates for the position of President. The President serves as the executive of this general ministry and also as the co-executive of Global Ministries, the common witness and work of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ.
           
The search committee is being chaired by Donald K. Gillett, II (Lexington, Ky). Other members of the committee include: Zach Baird (Cincinnati, Ohio), Deborah J. Blood (Bloomfield, Conn. – UCC representative), Carlos Cardoza-Orlandi (Dallas, Texas), Timothy James (Indianapolis, Ind.), Esther Lee (Fort Worth, Texas), Cyndy Twedell (Fort Worth, Texas), and ex-officio member Linda McCrae (Indianapolis, Ind.).

PRESIDENT
for the Division of Overseas Ministries
of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

The President of the Division of Overseas Ministries provides visionary leadership for the global ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada and is accountable for program development, planning and evaluation and the organizational, financial and personnel management of the Division of Overseas Ministries (DOM).  The president is the principal interpreter of the DOM’s policies and work to all constituencies inside and outside the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and is a key leader among the community of leaders in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

The President serves as the Co-Executive of Global Ministries and is responsible for guiding and leading the ministries activities. 

Major Responsibilities

The President is the executive administrator of the corporation, accountable to the Board of Directors of the DOM and has direct supervisory responsibilities for all executive level staff of the DOM and the administrative and support staff of the Office of the President. Together with the Executive Minister of Wider Church Ministries of the United Church of Christ (WCM), the President has supervisory responsibilities for all staff of Global Ministries.  The President provides transformative leadership necessary to engage in Christ’s mission to be a critical presence at the point of deepest need, oversees the management, nurture, and pastoral care of all DOM staff.  The President represents the Division of Overseas Ministries in denominational and ecumenical settings, and facilitates the connection of the ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the global church and the world.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

It is preferred that candidates be an ordained minister with standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or with comparable credentials and have demonstrated pastoral skills, and a theological and biblical understanding of mission and Global Ministries.  Candidates should have a wide vision of the church and its mission; understand DOM’s history and context, and be committed to the shared work of Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ.  Candidates should have demonstrated innovative leadership, administrative, budgeting and financial, fundraising, and management skills.
