Engage in “Hands On” Mission!

Welcome to the People-to-People Pilgrimage Program! We are very excited to have the opportunity to tell you all about this Global Ministries program. A mission pilgrimage is a transforming experience through which participants share themselves and God’s love in a new way, and take common steps of faith in embracing new people, places, and cultures.

During the month of May, we will post weekly updates and articles about People-to-People through different lenses, and we hope that you could learn and feel inspired to continue or start a “hands-on” mission experience by embarking on a journey of faith and solidarity with our international ecumenical partners.

As the new coordinator of the People-to-People pilgrimages, I will help facilitate and coordinate your trips by: exploring the various possibilities of activity that would best fit the interests and goals of your  group; enabling groups to draw on the expertise and guidance of our area offices; initiating and maintaining communication with our overseas partners; providing reflection and orientation materials to help your group prepare for the cross-cultural experience in mission; and facilitating group networking with other congregations, regions, and conferences having been involved in planning similar mission pilgrimages through our webpage and other media.

We are pleased to announce that we have created a Facebook page that would allow pilgrimage participants to share photos, thoughts and experiences before, during and after the trips, as well as working on improving our webpage. Also, we have started reviewing, updating and creating new resource materials that can help each group understand the context of the country they are visiting, learn about our partners, reflect culturally and theologically, and journal as part of the reflection and study.

Of course, we could not accomplish our goals without your ideas and feedback, so feel free to send them our way! And, if your church, conference or region is already engaged in pilgrimage experiences, make sure you connect them with us in order to share information and ideas that could help us improve our program. Stay connected to People-to-People this month to learn how to get involved, connected and inspired!
