2011 Report

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana is an established partner of Global Ministries, having been founded in the 1840’s by German missionaries. The denomination is one of Africa’s oldest self-governing churches and has strong roots in the Evangelical and Reformed tradition. The EP Church, Ghana includes approximately 600,000 members and 512 congregations. The EP Church, Ghana is very committed to its spirituality and social action ministries. Global Ministries supports the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana programs, especially in areas of education, social service, and capacity building.

The E. P. University College (EPUC), founded by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana is the Premier University of the Volta Region, Ghana.  It was accredited by the National Accreditation Board in September, 2007, and is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) which will award the degrees of EPUC during the period of affiliation or mentorship.  EPUC also has a relationship with Eden Theological Seminary, in the United States, through the E. P. Seminary, Peki at the Greenhills Campus of the University College.  Even though the University College was established by the E. P. Church, it is open to people of all faiths.  The mission of the EPUC is to propagate the light of Christ, through advanced teaching, research, and service; to bring newness of life, knowledge and skills.

The E. P. University College has four-year degree programs which includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry and Church Management.  This program has been rated “very good” by the National Accreditation Board and the E.P. Church is considering making it a policy at their General Assembly level to sponsor their pastors to pursue degree courses in Theology at EPUC.

When the college opened in February 2008 there were a total of 54 students.  The total enrollment for the 2011/2012 academic year was 1,060.  At the fifth (5th) Matriculation of the University College held on Saturday, November 19, 2011, 535 students were matriculated.  The phenomenal increase in enrollment has brought in its wake serious lecture-room challenges.  Global Ministries welcomes gifts to support the EPUC, especially as it provides high quality training for Christian pastors and leaders throughout Ghana.
