Global Ministries among more than 100 organizations to advocate for release of Palestinian-American minor held in Israeli detention
Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ joined more than 100 faith-based, human rights, and civil rights organizations to address a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio seeking the release of Mohammed Ibrahim, a 16-year-old Palestinian-American who has been unjustly detained for more than half a year in Israeli detention.
The letter describes Mohammed’s condition as “dire” and states that he “he has also lost over 30 pounds due to Israel denying him food and medical treatment.” The letter calls on the Secretary of State to intervene immediately “to ensure Mohammed is free, safe, and with his parents.”
The letter concludes by saying, “We are demanding that the U.S. Department of State work to secure the immediate release of Mohammed Ibrahim from Israeli prison and protect US citizens, particularly children. As a coalition of faith-based, human rights, and civil rights organizations, we stress the urgency of Mohammed’s health and that a child’s life is on the line.”
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ both adopted resolutions at General Assembly and General Synod in 2017 “Regarding Children Under Israeli Military Occupation.
