Global Ministries joins coalition urging US Senate to demand answers on violence in Palestine

A coalition of faith and advocacy organizations, including Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ, are signatories on a letter supporting Senator Chris Van Hollen’s (MD) West Bank 502B resolution. The resolution is entitled, “Requesting information on Israel’s human rights practices pursuant to section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.”

Since 2022, nine Americans have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli settlers or security forces, including Shireen Abu Akleh, Omar Assad, and Aysenur Ezgi Eygi. None of these killings has resulted in meaningful accountability.

Senator Van Hollen and colleagues have introduced a privileged resolution under Section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act that would require the State Department to report to Congress within 30 days on these killings, the involvement of Israeli forces or settlers, any use of U.S. assistance, and the status of Israeli and U.S. investigations, as well as broader human rights conditions in the West Bank.
